Most SAAS resale buyers are savvy and know what to look for when buying resale products. Here are some tips for users from a product perspective
- Check the price. The easiest way is to go to dealcode.org and check the prices for the same product and appropriate tier. You can also do a search for the product in FB posts to get an idea
- Check discontinued products ensure your product is not on the list
- Check the known issues e.g. email change not possible etc.
- Go to the product website and check if the copyright year is most recent
- If the website has blogs, check when the blog was updated
- Check social media especially FB groups for feedback
- Contact support and ask any question and check lead times for response
- Check if your needs are met. e.g. API's provided, limits, upgrades etc.
- Dont believe the hype that you see online as lot of them are affiliated links
- Affiliated products will have low resale value
- Take a test run if a free demo is available
- Check G2, Capterra, Trust Pilot and possibly product Hunt
This not an exhaustive list, but based on past experience of a few LTD buyers
When we built a site for listing resale deals we identified a few profiles of buyers. It is not an exhaustive analysis and more based on a cursory analysis rather than exotic market tools.
- Negotiator : Looking for a specific deal but will troll different groups to find the best deals and will wait for the price
- Trader: Has an existing list of deals (some of which are low traction) and is looking to trade not buy all the time
- Lone ranger: Pops up every now and then with a single trade request
- Business analyst : Has a business problem and defines it but is not sure which tool to buy. Requests opinions and then decides
- Seeker: Always looking for a deal to add to his inventory, quite often not realising s/he may already have a similar tool
- Enthusiast: Looking to buy deals on platforms and having missed it shows up to buy on second thought
- Full stack buyers: Like a product and feel there's potential to re-sell them in the future in a particular niche
- Regret/remorse : Wanted a product and sometimes refunded it only to realise later that it had more potential than they knew
- Scavengers: Looking for a deal at the lowest price possible
- Follow the crowd : Looks at all the hype and then decides to follow the crowd only to realise that it was not the best deal
- Failed Product: Buy an LTD and it goes belly-up and then buy another to replace it. Sometimes one LTD does not deliver, then next and then next
